With a population of just under 1.5 million people, Hawaiʻi is ranked the most expensive state to live in. The aloha state also ranks second in average cleaning costs in the country. Despite the major drop in tourism due to global pandemic restrictions, 2021 is progressing towards pre-COVID figures in the travel industry. In this article, we’ll highlight the average cleaning costs in Hawaiʻi from Q1 of 2021.

To illustrate this, we’ve compiled an infographic displaying the latest findings of vacation rental cleaning costs in Hawaiʻi. This data has been curated from thousands of Airbnb cleaning projects completed on the Turno Marketplace.

2. Historical average of cost averages from 2020 Q1- 2021 Q1

Cleaning Cost Average

Based on this data, we’ve found the following averages for cleaning costs in Hawaiʻi:

  • 1-bedroom: $75.91 (up 6.90% from Q4 2020)
  • 2-bedroom: $114.38 (down 4.87% from Q4)
  • 3-bedroom: $140.27 (down 0.08% from Q4)

While the national averages fluctuate often, vacation rental cleaning costs may need to be adjusted to stay competitive in your local market. Be sure to review your statewide data when available to help you get a more accurate estimate when pricing your listing.

Historical Average

Over the last year, cleaning costs have increased slowly across the board for one and two-bedroom properties. There has not been a significant increase in 3-bedroom rentals.

To better understand the context of the market, we have illustrated the historical average of rental cleaning costs in Hawaiʻi from 2020 Q1 to 2020 Q4. This data comes from completed Turno projects and is not priced by the company.

1-bedroom rentals, represented by the dotted yellow line, have shown a very slow increase since Q1 of 2020. 2-bedroom rentals, indicated by the dotted purple line, have staggered between increasing and dropping in price since Q2 of 2020. Lastly, 3-bedroom rentals, depicted by the dotted turquoise line, have also shown a fluctuating price in Q1 of 2021.

Overall, despite industry growth in Q1 of 2021, average cleaning costs in Hawaiʻi are remaining in the same range. Aside from 1-bedroom cleaning costs rising at nearly 7%, 2 and 3-bedroom cleaning costs have actually seen a decrease in prices, but at slow rates.
