March 17th marks one of the most internationally cherished celebrations – St. Patrick’s Day. For the Irish, a day for a display of pride and history. For the rest of the world, a day to celebrate and make great memories. Although nationally the day is celebrated, Dublin holds a festival on March 15th – 19th. This festival is full of parades, performances, art galleries, and tours meant to display the rich history and culture of the Irish people. Of course, if you desire, you can make your way to the city’s pubs for late-night activities.
April – Coachella Music Festival (U.S.)
What’s all of the excitement around this festival in Indio, California? If you’re a music or art enthusiast, there can be no greater destination to travel to in the world. The Coachella Music Festival is so massive it takes place on two weekends: April 13th – 15th and April 20th – 22nd. It features some of the biggest names in contemporary music such as Beyonce, Eminem, Miguel, and The Weeknd. It also offers excellent food and amazing art displays. The ticket attached to this one may be high, so plan accordingly!
June – La Batalla de Vino (Spain)
Fancy yourself some wine? This one might have flown under the radar of many people. However, La Batalla de Vino in Haro, Spain is an event you do NOT want to miss in your lifetime. “The Battle of Wine” – as the name implies – includes dancing, food, celebration, people, and [of course] lots of wine. The festivities take place on June 27th – June 30th. On the 28th, Haro has its largest opening party throughout the night. Then, on June 29th, the main event: dressed in a white shirt and red scarf, locals and tourists ascend a mountain in La Rioja to douse each other in copious amounts of wine. Afterwards, they go back to the town for dancing and more celebration.
September – Oktoberfest (Germany)
Possibly one of the most famous international festivals of all time, Oktoberfest in Munich, Germany takes place on September 22nd – October 7th. As La Batalla de Vino, this one requires an age limit to participants. Yet it may be wise to visit the site of some of the best brews in the world. Six munich breweries provide beer: Spaten, Paulaner, Lowenbrau, Hofbrau, Hacker Pschorr, and Augustiner (the oldest brewery, founded in 1328!). Not only will you taste this golden ales, you will experience German culture like never before with their variety of foods, people, and a crossbow competition!
October – Island Destination
Contrary to what you may think about visiting the tropic during wintertime, fall times might be more beneficial to your travel plans. Last year, hotel rates were much lower during this time, and visitor traffic was low (since most people visit in the winter). In the Caribbean, popular destinations are Trinidad and Tobago, Curacao, Aruba, and Bonaire (to avoid potential storms). Alternatively, take a look at the South Pacific: Fiji, Tahiti, Bora Bora, and other islands fall onto every traveler’s list. Of course, you can take a slice of domestic paradise by visiting the Hawaiian Islands of Maui, Oahu, Kaua’i or Hawai’i.
November – Día de los Muertos (Mexico)
The famous Mexican celebration is not very similar to Halloween in the United States. Contrary to the morbid name, people celebrate the lives of their loved ones in a cheerful way. Alters are made where offerings are placed – things the deceased enjoyed during their lives. Although not the exciting and party-like atmosphere of other events on this list, these celebrations can offer you an amazing look into a new culture. Experience Mexican art, food, dance, language, and culture like you never have.
December – Home for the Holidays
Of course, after a year of adventure and travel, there will be loved ones waiting to spend the holidays with you.
